Exploring Faces and Shapes - Month Two of My Daily Art Journey

Welcome back to my monthly blog post, where I explore the themes and patterns emerging from my daily art project each month. Engaging in art daily stimulates my creativity and allows me to explore new ideas and techniques without the pressure of perfection. I think, the more you create, the more comfortable you feel doing it. Also, for me, creating art can be a therapeutic outlet, helping to reduce my stress and anxiety.

In last month’s post I introduced my daily art project and my commitment to challenging myself to incorporate faces into my artwork.

This month, I’ve continued to explore the beauty of faces in my art, and I’m having so much fun with it! I was also deeply inspired by a recent class I taught to students from Plymouth Meeting Friends School, where we focused on the works of Paul Klee , an artist known for his use of shapes. The students produced incredible artwork after their lesson and their creativity inspired me to experiment with shapes in my own paintings this month. The creative possibilities shapes offer are endless!

As the month has progressed, I’m noticing these two themes - faces and geometry - coming together in my work. This combination has pushed me creatively, and I can see my authentic artist voice emerging in my exploration of faces!

In the piece below, “Valentine’s Day!”, my use of shapes and geometry not only add structure to the faces but the background as well. As is often the case for me, geometric structure helps me frame my abstract and intuitive approach to painting and drawing, allowing me to work in unique ways.

I’ve also been experimenting more with Procreate. I often start my paintings with acrylics, then scan them to finish digitally. This process gives me the opportunity to collage in digital elements, adding pops of vibrant color, texture, and my signature black-and-white grid. Procreate opens up endless possibilities for artistic expression!

As I continue to explore my creativity through my daily art project, I invite you to join me. Your thoughts and feedback mean a lot to me, and I’d love to hear about your creative outlets as well. Have you tried similar projects? What do you do to stay connected to your creative side? Share your experiences in the comments, and let’s inspire each other!
