Embracing Daily Creativity Through #365DaysofCreatingArtPosts
For those following my art journey on social media, you know I’ve been sharing a new piece of art every day for my #365DaysofCreatingArtPosts project since New Year’s Day! This challenge has been a wonderful motivator, and it’s helped me commit to reinvesting in my own art education. It’s also given me permission to spend time experimenting again.

Looking back over the past month, I notice recurring themes emerging in my work: quaint little villages, music, and flowers, especially poppies which always inspire me.
“Happy Homes”
“Love Sweet Love”
“Bouquet of Poppies”
Most of my work also tends to have a black and white grid somewhere in the painting. I love incorporating black and white grids to contrast with my vibrant palette, making the colors really pop. Using this combination also reminds me that life is not all black and white, there are lots of colors all around us.

What truly excites me, however, is seeing the return of faces in my daily work. This isn’t a theme I have explored much since my art school days in the early 70’s. Currently, I’m taking an online class on sketching and painting people, challenging myself to refine my portrait skills and push beyond my comfort zone. The dive back into this world has been both challenging and rewarding!
“Sketches of Faces”
“Timed Faces”
Most days, I paint intuitively—with no set theme. I simply let my pencil or brush move freely, guiding me through each stroke. The artwork evolves as I keep creating, so it’s exciting to see my commitment to portraiture emerging in my daily work!
I am finding so much joy in this creative journey and I’m grateful for the structure this project provides me. I can’t wait to continue. What’s bringing you joy in this new year? Share your experiences and projects in the comments below!
