“Bird Brigade” at the Philly Flower Show

This past week was packed full of art - another hopeful sign that life is returning to a new normal!

When my friend and phenomenal artist, Liza Myers, asked Heidi and me to assist her with the creation of a larger than life sized bird’s nest for the Fresh Artists’ installation at this year’s Philadelphia Flower Show this year, we didn’t hesitate. We feel passionately about the important work of Fresh Artists, a non-profit committed to creating opportunities for children in Philadelphia to both create art and advocate for art education. We also LOVE the annual Philadelphia Flower Show and were excited to be among those creating it for our city this year.

So, with Liza, local artist Nanci Hersh, and a team from Fresh Artists, we spent a few days in Philly style heat at FDR Park to create a huge and wonderful bird’s nest.

The nest was used to showcase the spectacular work of more than 50 young artists supported by Fresh Artists. Children and teens from 9 regional public schools in the area created brilliant bird portraits to advocate for the protection of birds and promote the Bird Safe Philly and Lights Out Philadelphia initiatives.

If you have not yet visited the Philadelphia Flower show, you have until 6/13. You don’t want to miss the Fresh Artists exhibition, “Bird Brigade”!

Thank you Liza, Nanci, Fresh Artists, and the Philadelphia Flower Show! What an inspired and thrilling effort to be apart of!!
