A Visit to the Newly Transformed Philadelphia Art Museum
Now that it is feeling safe to begin visiting galleries and museums again, I have been enjoying doing just that! Seeing art in person always inspires me and I was especially excited to get to the newly transformed Philadelphia Art Museum a few weeks ago.
Construction on the Philadelphia Art Museum’s landmark building was completed just this spring and the space has been transformed to create an open public space and more room for ART! Led by architect Frank Gehry, “nearly 90,000 square feet of space has been repurposed within the main building.” Read more about the transformation here and enjoy a few of my photos below, too.
Heidi and I, along with my fellow artist friend, Liza Myers, and her former assistant, Allison, explored the museum together delighting in the newly imagined space. The architecture was breathtaking and we enjoyed the new coffee bar in the center of the public space.
It was also really special to see art in person again. I especially enjoyed seeing some of Marc Chagall pieces. His use of color, depictions of weddings, and elements of Judaism always inspire me. If you recall, back in December, I created a Chagall inspired wedding painting of my son and daughter-in-law. You can read my blog post about it and see my painting here. In light of my recent exploration of his work, seeing Chagall’s 1943 oil painting titled “In the Night” at the Philadelphia Art Museum was a huge treat!
